Andrew Collington has made a great widget for the Yahoo Desktop Engine, which displays your chores on your desktop, and automatically updates the list each day. No logging in, no email, nothing. Entirely automatic.
You can download it for FREE, from here
http://widgets.yahoo.com/gallery/view.php?widget=38983
Great work, Andrew!

I love this widget and this site. I am only able to view 4 items a day on the widget. Do you know if there is a way to change that?

Yes, unfortunatly it only shows up to 4 chores, and there's no way to change it. We only just discovered this 'feature' ourselves, as the chore schedule at my place is fairly sparse...
I'll talk to the guy who made the widget and see what can be done :)

Thanks for the kind words, Rimu!
Like Rimu's list, Jen, mine was also very sparse so I didn't see this problem. However, I have a fix and will hopefully get a new version uploaded to the gallery sometime today.

Version 2.0 has just been uploaded to the Widget Gallery (it has to go through a manual review process).
This version brings a fix so that the widget will adjust to any length of chores. You can now also adjust what image you see on the widget and the refresh rate of reading the RSS feed.
Some other smaller tweaks have also been made to the 'About' and 'Preferences' windows.

Excellent job on all the latest navigation and inforamtion changes, Rimu - the page about the widget and finding the RSS ID is very helpful!
Just to let everyone know; a newer version of the widget will hopefully be completed soon integrating a great change that Rimu has made to the RSS feed which will allow completed items to be marked off the widget. You'll also be able to enter multiple RSS IDs and very easily switch between them.

I love it. One thing that would make it even better would be if you could have two different people's chores show up, or if you could even switch between two in the preferences without having to look up the ID number each time you want to switch. Checkboxes would be out of this world. Great job on the widget!

I'm a new user to Chore Buster and I came by it via the Yahoo Widget. The widget and this site are wonderful! Our family will be giving both a try! Keep up the great work!

Hi,
A new version of the Chorebuster widget has been uploaded to the Yahoo! Widget Gallery.
Many thanks to Rimu and Gavin for doing some beta testing for me - cheers, guys! :)
As many people have requested a way of checking multiple user feeds, that's been incorporated. Just enter each individual user id in to the preferences and then right-click on the feed to swap between the user's you've entered.
You can click on a chore to mark it as done, and this status is retained even if you close down the Widget and start it up again, and the status is recorded for each remembered user. Once the feed updates (based on the publication date), then the status is reset. An off-shoot of this is that you need to hold down the control key to drag the Widget around your desktop (unless you drag on the title bar).
The publication date of the feed is shown in a tooltip when you hover over the title bar.
If a chore is too long for the width of the Widget then a tooltip will show you the full text.
You can change the colour of the title bar, the to-do chores and the completed chores.
There's also a quick and easy link to the Chorebuster website - again, just right-click and you'll see!
If anyone uses it then I'd really appreciate your comments and rating on the widget's page:

Cheers,
Andy

I'd love to, but am just too busy at the moment :-)
If anyone else would like to make one, they are most welcome.

I'm new to Chore buster and Widgets. I downloaded your widget but when I attempt to use it, it says incorrect ID. It will not allow me to click on the links for more info or to change the ID. What am I doing wrong?

I can't figure out how to add multiple IDs to the Widget.
In the Preferences, there is one box for User ID. I've tried putting in my family's 4 IDs spearated by 1) a space; 2) a comma; 3) a semi-colon. Nothing worked.
Having my own chores listed is great, but I'd love to be able to see my kids' chores as well.

Sorry, you can only have one person's chores in the widget.

OK, I understand that, but Andy's post had me confused:
"As many people have requested a way of checking multiple user feeds, that's been incorporated. Just enter each individual user id in to the preferences and then right-click on the feed to swap between the user's you've entered."
AS long as I don't forget *my* chores ...

Ohhh, right I see now.
When you put in a person's ID, it will display their chores. When you put in another person's ID, it will display their chores instead. BUT, it remembers the previous person, so when you right click on the widget that person can be quickly and easily chosen from the list.
So it does support multiple people, but only one at a time! :)

Got it!
It is a bit counter-intuitive, so if you don't mind, I'll post the directions here. Feel free to edit or delete.
TO ENTER MULTIPLE PEOPLE IN THE WIDGET
1. Go to the RSS feed page to find everyone's ID numbers
2. Download and open the widget
3. Right-click and open the Preferences. Open the RSS tab.
4. Enter the ID number for one person in the box. Click OK to close the Preferences box.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for each person's ID. Type over the previous ID. You may think you are deleting the first person's ID, but you are not.
To change users, right-click and select the user from the menu.
